Musculoskeletal Screening

Individual assessments using specific physical tests and procedures to gain information on several areas of a client’s physical make up. Typical components assessed are:
  1. Joint ROM
  2. Flexibility
  3. Core Strength
  4. Functional Strength

The purpose of the screening is to highlight any areas of inefficiency or previous injuries which could be risk factors to injury. It is therefore very much a tool for improving physical health and performance, as well as a tool for injury prevention.  The Founders of Synthesis established annual pre-season screening programs at Long Island University Brooklyn Campus and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater that have influenced other dance departments and companies throughout the country toward establishing similar programs. The screening program is a cornerstone of the LIU Dance Department’s Dance Wellness Program.

Dance Technique Screening

Similar to a musculoskeletal screen, but the primary goal of the technique screen is to observe execution of dance technique and identify any errors in the execution that could predispose the dancer to injury. Dancer are given feedback and provided with as many tools and resources to assist in their technical development as well as injury prevention.
